Aston Villa's Champions League Ticket Pricing Sparks Outrage
Aston Villa supporters have expressed their discontent with the club's pricing for Champions League tickets, labeling them as "out of touch." The club announced ticket prices for their home matches against teams like Bayern Munich and Juventus, with costs ranging from £85 to £97 for non-season ticket holders. This is significantly higher compared to the Premier League's Category A match prices, which top at £92. Season ticket holders receive a slight discount, with prices set between £70 and £82.
The Aston Villa Supporters' Trust (AVST) voiced their disappointment, having previously advocated for Champions League tickets to not exceed the cost of Category A games. They argue that the current pricing exploits loyal fans who have waited 41 years to see the club back in Europe’s top competition. The Football Supporters' Association also criticized the prices as "truly eye-watering."
Comparatively, other English clubs in the Champions League, like Liverpool and Manchester City, offer lower ticket prices, with UEFA capping away ticket prices at 60 euros (£50.55). Villa supporters fear that these prices may alienate fans, urging the club to reconsider before their first home game against Bayern Munich. Villa's Champions League journey begins away against Young Boys on September 17, with their first home match scheduled for October 2.
