Phil Foden Set to Miss England Duty Due to Illness, Says Guardiola
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has indicated that Phil Foden is likely to withdraw from the England squad due to a virus. Foden, who has only played 45 minutes this season, missed recent matches against Ipswich Town and West Ham after experiencing discomfort against Chelsea.
Guardiola expressed doubts about Foden's availability for England's upcoming Nations League games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, stating, "I don’t think so right now. He doesn’t feel well." The illness affecting Foden is a minor stomach virus, and while some expect antibiotics might help, Guardiola remains uncertain about his immediate recovery.
The 24-year-old forward, a key player for both Manchester City and the England national team, had been included in Lee Carsley's first England squad as interim manager. However, his participation is now in doubt, pending his recovery from the illness.
